#TLDR: Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, so the Chinese say!
Admit it, the behavior modifications that you are chasing in #PBJAM are challenging and the very reason that you are using #PBJAM is because you have struggled with these behaviors in the past.
As we have discussed in the introductory parts of your #PBJAM journey, we do not have a magic wand to make sudden changes. What we believe in (and what #science supports) are incremental changes that are sustainable. Why does this work?
Small steps are finite, achievable and not over-whelming #PBJAM platform and structure encourages your towards clarity and accountability. We see our participants starting out with ambitious vague goals and then crystallizing them into rewarding nuggets as actions that are finite and tangible. Our interactions via sessions keep accountability at the forefront
Small steps get you out of inertia and onto the road As the Chinese say "Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", small steps/actions taken create that feeling of success, achievement and feed into a virtuous cycle of sustained actions
Small steps allow one to break down large goals into clearer roadmap Saying that I want to be concise in my communications is an admirable but vague goal. Much better would be to state successive steps, for example, to achieve concise written communication a) Review my last week's emails and assess what % were more than four lines, b) Review at least 10 of my longer emails (>4 lines) to find out if I could have made them shorter, c) Write 20% more shorter emails than last week, d) Write no more than 10% emails longer than 4 lines.
