Response Vs Reaction

#TLDR: Many interactions can be saved from disastrous outcomes when individuals focus on #response than #reaction.

Recently, our #PBJAM facilitator, Veronica Hill posted about #response and #reaction. Two words that sound similar but are vastly different in the #modernworkplace. #Reaction is what comes out of your mouth immediately (or with little thought). #Reaction is more about what we want to say and less about listening to what others are saying. #Reaction can create misunderstandings and hurt people. #Reaction can put brakes on your #career!

#Response on the other hand is a #thoughtful interpretation of what we hear from others. #Response is part of a #conversation rather than an #argument. #Response conveys an open atmosphere for better solutions. #Response can act as an accelerator for your #career!

There is a famous pithy, "The difference between #reaction and #response is often only a few breaths". Those few breaths can really help your brain process what others are saying, take emotions out and respond with your genuine opinions in kind words that convey to your stakeholders your interest in finding a better solution and not just in arguing about being right.

What has been your experience with #reaction vs. #response? How have you managed to salvage the situation after an untimely #reaction? How has your #response helped you? How do you make sure to respond more than to react? Do write and share!
